Post Avoiding Junk In You Inbox

When signing up for anything on the net you will eventually find youself on unwanted mailing lists. To avoid spam with your primary email address use free and disposable email addresses when you think you might be exposred to junk emailers.

When you do start getting to much junk email you can close the account and open another. This saves the grief of flooding your primary email with garbage from unwanted sources. Use primary emails only for close friends and family.

Use disposable emails when posting to newsgroups. Spammers sometimes use software to scour the newsgroups for your email addresss.

Don't post your email on forums. Make sure if you do that you use a free account or disposable email adress.

You ask where can I find a free or disposable email account?

Gmail has to be one of the best with it's unlimited storage. It still requires an invitation to my knowledge.

If you need a gmail account send me a message or post here and I will work out an invitation for you.

Hotmail

Yahoo Maill

These are the three I would recommend. If others can recommend some dependable free emails to use please share.

Free disposable emails that work well:

Spamgourmet
This is a great service you can use to have your email forwarded to you without getting junk. You can designate how many times you want to use the email that you set up and can use multiple identities.

Mailinator Disposable Email Address Service
Mailinator lets you use any email address @mailinator.com and pick up the mail at their site. Since there's no connection to your real address, you sure won't get spam from using Mailinator addresses.

There are a lot of other free email services and disposable services. You can also do a search if looking for something specific. But make sure to use an email address you can dispose of later on if you end up with to much junk mail in your email box. Happy Surfing.

I agree that anybody who doesn't like seeing their inbox fill up with SPAM needs at least one email account just for junkmail. And I also agree that Google's Gmail is a great way to go. Not only because you get unlimited storage, but also because their SPAM filters are pretty good, so they'll block a lot of the garbage for you. If you login through your browser, the user interface is really good once you get used to it, or you can change the settings to let you download the emails to your favorite desktop email application (I recommend Mozilla Thunderbird).

Cheers,

Wil

Belle you can download Thunderbird Here. It integrates with Firefox. I have not used it but I am a diehard Opera user. They have email to go with Opera as well.

On redirecting it is easy to do it is forwarding your emails from a free email and many provide this service to forward to another account. Many allow downloading right to your regular email program as well. Gmail allows for pop3 connections so you can download it to your desktop.

Belle I run two email programs on my computer due to my businesses and my personal mail it is kind of my way of filtering my mail. I run Outlook and Calypso (now called Courier) and I check mail via my browser depending on what the mail is for.   As long as you are only downloading mail for a specific email account to say OE or to Thunderbird I can't see you should have any problems. Now if you are going to try and set up the email accounts in both programs you might run into a problem.

I run Outlook Express for our site support emails, and Thunderbird for the emails that I receive from the programs I am a member of, and have never encountered any problems or conflicts. The only complaint that I have about Thunderbird is that because it operates seperately from the browser, the links don't change color when you have visited, which can be a pain if you have more than one days worth of emails at a program. I really feel that the advantages outweigh the inconveniences for me, though.

Thanks Renee..I was worried about having them both but I finally decided to give it a try...It took me forever to get brave enough to d/l firefox too but I'm sure glad I did..

I bought this computer about 8 - 10 months ago and since I set it up ( Outlook Express ) the links have never changed color. Is there a setting that I have missed.

I've been using Yahoo Plus with Address Guard for a couple of years now.  I have a different email address for each program, and if I start getting too much spam, I simply delete the address and add a new one.

I find it interesting to see which sites start sending spam of phish, and they assure me that it's not from them.  However, I've only given out THAT address to them.  Hmmm.

A lot of agencies that contact me by phone ask for my email addy, and I refuse to give them one.  I get too many emails already!
